'10 MLYNEDD ANHYGOEL’

Nid Tony Blair yw’r unig un sy’n dathlu deng mlynedd y mis hwn.  Ydy hi wir yn 10 mlynedd ers i Kathy lansio ei chasgliad cyntaf o luniau dyfrlliw gwreiddiol, printiau argraffiad cyfyngedig a chardiau cyfarch, yn cynnwys y lluniau bywyd llonydd o lestri Cymreig sydd mor nodweddiadol o’i gwaith?  Ers hynny, mae taith y fam sengl i bedwar o blant wedi mynd â hi o’r arddangosfa gyntaf honno yn y ‘Walls’ yng Nghroesoswallt, trwy gyffro a drama Oriel Tŷ Cornel ym Meifod, ac yna ymlaen i greu enw iddi’i hun yn fyd-eang (mae’r Japaneaid yn arbennig o hoff o’i gwaith!) fel arlunydd sefydlog sy’n cyhoeddi ei gwaith ei hun yn ddwyieithog, hyd at lwyddiant ysgubol oriel newydd Kathy Gittins ym Mhwllheli.  Bydd cyfle hefyd i edmygwyr gwaith Kathy i gwrdd â hi a gweld ei phrosiect diweddaraf yn Neuadd Morgannwg yn  Sioe Frenhinol Cymru ac yn y Neuadd Arddangos yn Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yr Wyddgrug yr haf hwn.  Cyflawnwyd hyn i gyd, heb gymorth unrhyw grantiau, gan Kathy ei hun, sydd wedi benthyca’n helaeth ar hyd y ffordd er mwyn gwireddu ei breuddwydion.

Mae Kathy’n teimlo bod arni hi ddyled fawr i’w gwreiddiau Cymreig ac mae hi’n teimlo ei bod hi’n anrhydedd mawr i fedru cyfrannu tuag at ffyniant y diwylliant Cymreig.  Ni chafodd ei magu fel Cymraes iaith gyntaf ond mae ei phenderfyniad a’i chariad tuag at yr iaith yn golygu ei bod hi erbyn hyn yn rhugl a hyderus – gallwch ei chlywed yn aml yn cael ei chyfweld yn Gymraeg  ar raglenni radio a theledu, ac mae ei brwdfrydedd yn heintus.

Mae’r un brwdfrydedd i’w weld yn ei horiel ym Mhwllheli, lle mae Kathy wedi creu awyrgylch hudolus, gyda’r tegell yn berwi’n dragywydd!  Dewch yno i ymlacio a mwynhau’r gymysgedd eclectig ac unigryw o emwaith cyfoes gan gynllunwyr tramor, arddangosiadau ceramig a gweithiau celf  gan artistiaid eraill a chasgliad avant-garde o ddillad gan gynllunwyr blaenllaw mewn defnyddiau naturiol a lliwiau’r pridd.  O ie, ac mae gwaith diweddaraf Kathy i’w weld yno hefyd.

Felly p’un ai ydych chi’n siarad Cymraeg neu Saesneg, mae Kathy a’i thîm  yn edrych ymlaen at eich gweld ac at eich croesawu’n gynnes i’w byd.

'10 INCREDIBLE YEARS'

Tony Blair is not the only one reflecting on the past 10 years this month.  Can it really be 10 yrs ago that Kathy Gittins launched her first collection of original watercolours, limited edition prints and greetings cards, featuring her trademark still-lifes of Gaudy Welsh china? Since then, her journey has taken this single mother of four from that first exhibition at The Walls in Oswestry, through the excitement and drama of developing Corner House Gallery in Meifod and of creating a world wide reputation (Japan are particularly keen!) as an established artist publishing her own work bilingualy, to the outstanding success of her new gallery, Oriel Kathy Gittins, in Pwllheli.  Fans of Kathy's work will also be able to meet her and view her latest project at the Glamorgan Hall, Royal Welsh Show and the Exhibition Hall, National Eisteddfod in Mold this Summer.  All of this has been achieved over the ten years without the benefit of any grant aid, funded by Kathy herself, who has incurred substantial borrowings along the way to finance her dream but does not regret one moment of the adventure.

In fact, Kathy feels that she owes a deep debt of gratitude to her Welsh roots and that she is incredibly privileged to be able to contribute to the burgeoning Welsh language culture.  She was not brought up as a first language welsh speaker, but her determination and passion for all things Welsh has led her to become confidant and fluent - you can often hear her being interviewed in Welsh language radio and television, where her enthusiasm is infectious.

This spirit carries over to her gallery in Pwllheli, where Kathy has created an enchanting atmosphere, with the kettle always on the boil!  Relax and experience the unique and eclectic mix of individual pieces of contemporary jewellery by continental designers, exhibitions of ceramics and other art works by visiting artists and an avant-garde collection of designer clothing in natural fibres and an earthy palette.  Oh yes, and Kathy's latest works are also on display.

So whether you speak Welsh or English, Kathy and her team always look forward to seeing you and will be delighted to take the time to welcome you into their fascinating world.
